Feb. 7 This is the beginning of the new kennel building. This is the first day. The poles are set. It's nice and muddy!
Feb. 8 This is day 2 of building. The trusses are up and it's beginning to look like a building.
Feb. 9 Day # 3 of the building process. The moisture barrier was put on and the metal is going on. This is the front of the kennel facing the road. The area with the Windows will be the office and front room.
This is the back of the kennel. The area where the window is will be the whelping room & Nursery.
Feb. 11 Day # 4 of the building process. They are building the doggy door openings and the window frames in the kennel area now. It was snowing & windy today and really cold, but it seemed like they still got quite a bit done. They enclosed 1/2 of the west end. The window on that end will be where the grooming & laundry room is and a 1/2 bath.
Feb. 12 Day # 5 of the building process. They worked on building the doggy door openings today and they installed some of the windows in the kennel area. It didn't take them long at all to frame up the doggy door openings but they are making the metal inserts and that's taking a little longer.
The front... 8 doggy door openings for 8 runs.
The back.... also 8 doggy doors for 8 runs. Each run will be 4' x 8'
Feb 13 Day# 6 The doggy door inserts are finished (those took awhile to make!) and the moisture barrier is on the kennel area and the metal is going on now. ( This picture was taken after dark).
Feb 14 Day# 7 Most of the metal is on now. The trim needs to be put on along with the gutters and downspouts. That will be done tomorrow. Then the builders will have to wait awhile before finishing because the west end has to stay open til the concrete work is done. So now I'm praying for some good weather so I can see this building finished!
Feb 14 Day# 7 This is the back of the kennel . (Please excuse the clothesline poles in these pictures, they will be removed. Where the kennel is built was our old homeplace, so there are still things left from it being a yard)
Welcome to the building process of the new kennel!
I'm very excited about the new kennel! On the other hand I am very grateful for my existing kennel. It has served me and my little dogs well over the past years. It is still serving us now untl we are able to move into the new building. The existing kennel could use some changes and upgrades and that was our plan. That plan changed after talking with a couple of carpenters, It seemed to be a better decision financially to build new rather than trying to make the changes to the existing building. So that's what we decided to do. We will keep the existing kennel for Marty's work shop, some storage and also leave some of the kennel area in tact to use as a quarintine kennel for when new dachshunds arrive at our place. The existing kennel was built many years ago. It was built to be a chicken house for my Great Grandma's chickens. Later, after she passed away, the chicken house was turned into a garage. Then a few years later when we moved here, it became a dog kennel. So it's had quite a history!
The new kennel is 34' x 56' and will have a kennel area with 16 indoor/outdoor runs. Heated concrete floors, a whelping/nursery room, a laundry & groom room, a 1/2 bath and a large front room for office and lounging and playing wih dogs!

This is a picture of the existing kennel, which is 24' X 44' ......... ( Pictures of the New Kennel are Posted Below )
Feb. 15 ..... The trim and gutters are on. The building process is at a halt until the weathers allows us to get some of the mud bladed from the inside of the building and get the road pack spread inside. After that is done, we will get the concrete work done. They are telling me depending on the weather, it may be April before the concrete can be done. The west end of the building will be left open so all of that work can be done inside. In the meantime.... This is what my new kennel looks like!
The Front ..... The North facing the road. (please excuse the pile of building supplies laying in the front of it)
The East End... the walk through door from outside to the kennel area.
The Back... facing the south.
The west end... unfinished til the concrete work inside is done. This end will have another walk through door and another window.
We're looking forward to finishing the building and moving in!
